Nintendo to Launch Mii Maker Online Feature in Late May
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Nintendo announced in its Miitomo app on Monday that it will launch a browser-based Mii Maker tool by late May. The feature will let players create and edit Mii characters for Nintendo accounts online.
Nintendo will perform system migration maintenance until late May. Players will not be able to change the Mii on their Nintendo accounts during the maintenance period. Changes to characters for Nintendo Network IDs will not apply to Mii characters on Nintendo accounts.
The Miitomo app will end service on May 9 at 3:00 a.m. EDT. Nintendo ceased sales of Miitomo coins on January 24, but will continue to offer daily login bonuses until the service closes.
Players will not be able to use any of the game's features after service ends, but they may transfer their Mii character (without its personality and other information) to their Nintendo account. Sidekick Mii characters can be saved and moved to Nintendo 3DS or Wii U systems via QR code. Miifotos must be saved before the end of service.
Nintendo will no longer display Miitomo-themed icons and clothing items on Nintendo accounts or in the Super Mario Run smartphone game after service has ended.
Nintendo launched the game in March 2016 in Japan, and it had reached 1 million users in Japan within four days. The game launched in North America and Europe later the same month.
Miitomo is Nintendo's first smartphone app, and it is a communication app that uses Mii characters. Players create Mii avatars of themselves and answer questions about themselves. The Mii then share those answers with players' Friends' Miis. Players can only communicate with their Friends' Miis, and Nintendo stated that "a Friend relationship can be established only between two people who know each other and have consented to the relationship."
