Patlabor/Birdy's Masami Yuuki to Launch Historical Manga
posted on by Karen Ressler
The February 2018 issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Big Comic Spirits announced on Wednesday that Masami Yuuki will launch a new series titled Shinkurō, Hashiru! (Shinkurō, Run!) in the next issue on January 27. The manga will be a historical series about the Warring States period daimyō (feudal lord) Ise Shinkurō, later known as Hōjō Sōun.
Yuuki recently ended his Disu x Komi (Discommunication) manga in Shogakukan's Monthly Spirits on October 27. At the time of its launch in 2013, Disu x Komi was Yuuki's first entirely new series in 10 years, although he later launched the Hakubo no Chronicle manga (his first weekly series in 10 years), and ended it on May 29.
Yuuki's Tetsuwan Birdy Evolution (Birdy the Mighty Evolution) series ran from 2008 to 2012 in Weekly Big Comic Spirits. The series is a sequel to his Tetsuwan Birdy (Birdy the Mighty) manga remake that ran in Shogakukan's Weekly Young Sunday and Big Comic Spirits magazines. The manga versions of Birdy the Mighty have not been released in North America, but Central Park Media and Funimation released the various anime adaptations, and Viz Media released some of Yuuki's Mobile Police Patlabor manga.
Yuuki is also the concept creator for Tetsuro Kasahara's Atom The Beginning manga. He drew a new one-shot for his Kyūkyoku Chōjin R manga, which inspired an original video anime in 1991, earlier this month.
