Square Enix announced on Friday that it will release Romancing Saga 2 on PlayStation 4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC on December 15 in Japan, North America, and Europe. North America and Europe will also get the PlayStation Vita version, which has been out in Japan since Match 2016. The game will be digital-only on all platforms.
Square Enix also began streaming a trailer.
The Romancing SaGa 2 re-release retains the character sprites from the original 1993 SNES game, but the backgrounds and battle graphics are new. The game includes the additional classes and a dungeon that were included with the 2010 mobile version of the game.
Square Enix released the smartphone port of Romancing SaGa 2 on iOS and Android in May 2016 in English worldwide.
Square Enix will also release its remastered version of Romancing SaGa 3 in the West, but game producer Akitoshi Kawazu confirmed in April that it plans to release Romancing SaGa 2 first.
Square Enix released the Makai Tōshi SaGa (The Final Fantasy Legend in North America) game in 1989. Since then, there have been many installments in the series, including ports and remakes. The last full-fledged SaGa game, Unlimited Saga, shipped in 2003. Square Enix released SaGa Scarlet Grace on the PlayStation Vita in December 2016.
