Daimos Gets New Dub, Debuts in Philippines on October 2
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Philippine television channel GMA-7 revealed with a commercial on Sunday that it will begin airing the Tōshō Daimos anime on the channel on October 2 with a new dub. The dub will star actors Miguel Tanfelix as Richard Hartford (named Kazuya Ryūzaki in the original Japanese), and Bianca Umali as Erika. The anime will air on Mondays to Fridays at 8:50 a.m.
GMA-7's original announcement of the Daimos re-dub in 2015 featured actor and singer Alden Richards, with Louise delos Reyes playing Erika. The new commercial does not mention the actors.
Daimos (Tōshō Daimos) first aired in the Philippines on GMA-7 with English dubs in 1978. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos banned Daimos during its original airing alongside Voltes V and other anime airing on television due to "excessive violence." GMA-7 aired a Tagalog dub of Daimos in 1999.
Southeast Asian streaming service iflix added Daimos to its service in June 2016, but removed it this month.
Tōshō Daimos is the third part of director Tadao Nagahama's "Romance Super Robot Trilogy" (Chō Denji Robo Combattler V forms the first part, and Chō Denji Machine Voltes V is the second part). Daimos originally aired in Japan in 1978.
