Sony announced at its PlayStation press conference at Tokyo Game Show on Tuesday that Hit-Point's smartphone app Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector is inspiring the Neko Atsume VR game for PlayStation VR in 2018.
The original cat-collecting game has been downloaded more than 19 million times worldwide since it debuted in October 2014.
The Neko Atsume no Ie (Neko Atsume's Home) live-action film based on Hit-Point's game opened in Japan on April 8. Japan Society's Japan Cuts: Festival of New Japanese Film event in New York City screened the film on July 16.
Masatoshi Kurakata (Railways Ai o Tsutaerarenai Otona-tachi e, Game Center CX the Movie 1986 Mighty Bomb Jack) directed the film, and Yūji Nagamori planned and wrote the screenplay. The film stars Atsushi Ito as novelist Masaru Sakumoto, who is in a professional rut. He moves to the country and makes friends with the local cats.
