Etrian Odyssey V director Shigeo Komori said in an interview with Famitsu on Monday that a new Etrian Odyssey (Sekaiju no MeiQ) game is in development. He went on to say that the new work will be the "last to use the bottom screen on the Nintendo 3DS to draw the map."
"In order to respond to our supportive fans, I want to release a 'festival-like' work that can also be said to be another culmination [of the series]," Komori said. Earlier in the interview, Komori had reiterated his feeling that the most recent game in the numbered series, Etrian Odyssey V, was a culmination of the expertise the staff has cultivated working on the game series.
Atlus released Etrian Odyssey V for Nintendo 3DS in August 2016, and will release it in North America on October 17. The Sekaiju to Fushigi no Dungeon 2 (Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2) spinoff game shipped in Japan on August 31.
The Nintendo DS and 3DS dungeon-crawler RPG series is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
