Steam release to include text in English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese

Idea Factory International announced on Friday that it will release a port of the Hakuōki: Kyoto Winds (Hakuōki Shinkai: Kaze no Shō) PlayStation Vita game on PC via Steam this summer. The Steam release will feature updated graphics and will include English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese text options.

Idea Factory International released the game physically and digitally for the PS Vita on May 16 in North America and May 19 in Europe.

The game, which shipped in Japan in September 2015, remakes the original Hakuōki Shinsengumi Kitan 2008 PlayStation 2 game. The remake received a sequel titled Hakuōki Shinkai: Hana no Shō in June 2016 in Japan. The sequel tackles different parts of the first game's story.

Idea Factory International stated in its press release on Friday that its port of Hakuōki: Kyoto Winds is "the first part of a two-part release," but hasn't officially confirmed if it will release Hakuōki Shinkai: Hana no Shō in the West.

Idea Factory plans to release a port of both Hakuōki Shinkai: Kaze no Shō and Hakuōki Shinkai: Hana no Shō for the PlayStation 4 in Japan under the title Hakuōki Shinkai: Fūkaden on July 13.

The original game has also been ported into the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS platforms. Aksys Games localized and released Hakuōki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom for the PSP in February 2012, Hakuōki: Memories of the Shinsengumi for the Nintendo 3DS in September 2013, and Hakuōki: Stories of the Shinsengumi for the PS3 in May 2014.

The story of the game and its anime adaptation center around the historical Shinsengumi samurai group in Kyoto during the 19th century.
