Idea Factory International to release PS4, PS Vita games in spring, summer 2017

Idea Factory International unveiled three new games for release in the West next year during a press event on Thursday, including Dark Rose Valkyrie, Hakuōki: Kyoto Winds, and Mary Skelter: Nightmares.

Dark Rose Valkyrie (Kurobara no Valkyrie) will ship for the PlayStation 4 in spring 2017.

The game shipped in Japan on July 21.

The game takes place in a world where a "chimera virus" threatens humanity. The protagonist Asahi Shiramine (Daisuke Namikawa) leads Valkyrie, a special unit dedicated to taking down chimeras.

The project reunited Tales role-playing game series veterans Kousuke Fujishima (Ah My Goddess, Sakura Wars) and Takumi Miyajima (Fate/Zero). Fujishima designed the game's characters, while Miyajima wrote the game's scenario.

The project is part of the new brand titled IDEA FACTORY INTERNATIONAL, and the game marks the first time Idea Factory's California-based overseas representative Idea Factory International has been part of a game's production.

Hakuōki: Kyoto Winds (Hakuōki Shinkai: Kaze no Shō) will ship for the PlayStation Vita in spring 2017.

The game shipped in Japan in September 2015. The remake received a sequel titled Hakuōki Shinkai: Hana no Shō on June 16 in Japan. The game tackles different parts of the first game's story.

The game remakes the original Hakuōki Shinsengumi Kitan 2008 PlayStation 2 game. The game has since been ported into the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS platforms. Aksys Games localized and released Hakuōki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom for the PSP in February 2012, Hakuōki: Memories of the Shinsengumi for the Nintendo 3DS in September 2013, and Hakuōki: Stories of the Shinsengumi for the PS3 in May 2014.

The story of the game and its anime adaptation center around the historical Shinsengumi samurai group in Kyoto during the 19th century.

Mary Skelter: Nightmares (Kangokutō Mary Skelter) will ship for the PS Vita in summer 2017.

The game shipped in Japan on October 13.

The "active 3D dungeon RPG" was a collaboration between Dengeki Bunko, Dengeki PlayStation, and Compile Heart. Minutes light novel author Yomoji Otono wrote the story, and Dakei Naname designed the characters.

The game takes place in Japan, in a mysterious prison called "Jail" that is hidden 666 meters beneath the ground. Jail originally appeared in September 1999, and as it sank into the ground it became a living being. Afterward, demons called "Maruhein" appeared from underground, and they captured and imprisoned humanity in Jail. Jack and Alice were born a few decades after Jail appeared, and their goal is to escape.

Akazukin is a member of the Chishiki Girls Corps, a group of girls born after humanity was imprisoned in Jail. The group members possess a greatly improved physical ability, awakened by the blood of the Maruhein. Along with Akazukin, Oyayubihime (Thumbelina), Shirayukihime (Snow White), Nerihime (Sleeping Beauty) and other fairy tale princesses appear in the game.
