posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Japanese dōjin developer ZUN (founder and sole member of the Team Shanghai Alice dōjin game developer circle) revealed on Thursday that he is developing the 16th main installment in the Touhou Project series of "bullet hell" (danmaku) shooters, titled Touhou: Hidden Star in Four Seasons (Tōhō Tenkūshō). He added he hopes to have a demo version of the game ready at this year's Hakurei Jinja Reitaisai event on May 7, and will release the full game at this year's Summer Comiket (Comic Market), which takes place on August 11-13.
The game's playable characters include Reimu, Marisa, Cirno, and Aya.
Team Shanghai Alice released Touhou: Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, the 15th main game in the series, during 2015's Summer Comiket in August 2015. Playism released Touhou: Double Dealing Character in May 2015 as the first official release of any game in the Touhou Project series in English-speaking territories.
Team Shanghai Alice released the first game in the series, Highly Responsive to Prayers, in 1995 on the PC-98 platform. Since then, the series has spawned 15 other main games, multiple spin-offs, and many fan-made derivative works based on characters and stories from the series. Playism, NIS America, and XSEED have released some of the fan-made games based on the franchise.
