The official website for the television anime adaptation of Iqura Sugimoto's Nana Maru San Batsu (literally, "7 O 3 X" or "7 Right, 3 Wrong") manga announced on Thursday that Shun Horie will play the protagonist Shiki Koshiyama, and Umika Kawashima will play the heroine Mari Fukami. Masaki Ōzora (12-Sai: Chiccha na Mune no Tokimeki) is directing the anime at TMS Entertainment. Yuuko Kakihara (Orange, Digimon Adventure tri.) is supervising the anime's scripts. Makoto Takahoko (Thunder Jet) is drawing the character designs.
The anime's official Twitter account will post cast quiz videos for the characters Gakuto Sasajima and Chisato Mikuriya on March 8 and March 14, respectively. People who participate in the campaign will be eligible to receive presents. Sugimoto, Horie, and the cast member for Gakuto will appear at a talk show at Anime Japan 2017 this month.
The anime's website also posted a teaser visual and revealed that the anime will premiere on NTV in July.
The anime was announced in December, and Sugimoto drew an illustration to celebrate.
The manga centers around the club life and coming-of-age of high school students who challenge themselves in quiz competitions. Shiki Koshiyama is a book-loving boy who joins the quiz club at the urging of Mari Fukami, a girl who is an experienced quiz competitor.
Sugimoto launched the manga in Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine in 2010, and Kadokawa published the 13th compiled book volume on December 31. A media adaptation was already announced as in the works in August. Sugimoto's other works include the manga adaptation of Mamoru Hosoda's Summer Wars anime film.
The anime's official website is accepting submissions for quiz questions, and the chosen entries will be used in the anime itself and in future events.
