NHK's official website for the Shōnen Ashibe GO! GO! Goma-chan television anime series has revealed that the anime is getting a second series that will premiere on April 4. The new anime will air on NHK E-TV on Tuesdays at 6:45 p.m.
Additionally, the April issue of Futabasha's Monthly Action magazine announced on Saturday that Hiromi Morishita and Junko Ogino's new manga adaptation of the anime is changing magazines from Monthly Action to Monthly Manga Town. The manga will make its debut in the June issue of Monthly Manga Town, which ships on May 6. The new manga series debuted in the June 2016 issue of Monthly Action, which shipped on April 25. Crunchyroll is releasing the manga in English digitally.
The anime itself is a new adaptation of Morishita's original Shōnen Ashibe manga. The first season premiered in April 2016, and Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs.
Nobuhiro Kondō (Sgt. Frog, Nobunagun) is directing the ongoing first season at the studio Bridge. Toshimitsu Takeuchi (Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold, Weiß Survive R) is in charge of series scripts, and Team Goma is producing.
Morishita serialized the original manga in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine from 1988 to 1994. The story follows the daily life of the baby spotted seal Goma-chan and its owner, schoolboy Ashibe Ashiya.
Morishita's original manga already inspired a 1991 television anime series and a second 1992-1993 television anime series. The manga also spawned a manga sequel named ComaGoma in Weekly Young Jump from 2000 to 2004.
