Battle Spirits Double Drive Manga Ends, 2 New Battle Spirits Manga Launch in April

Adaptation of ongoing TV anime launched in Saikyō Jump magazine in April

The March issue of Shueisha's Saikyō Jump magazine published the final chapter of Masato Ichishiki's (Battle Spirits: Sword Eyes, Battle Spirits Saikyō Ginga Ultimate Zero) Battle Spirits Double Drive manga series on Friday. The manga adapted the ongoing Battle Spirits Double Drive television anime series, which premiered in Japan on April 6.

The issue additionally revealed that Ichishiki and Atsunori Takano will both launch new manga based on the Battle Spirits franchise in the magazine's May issue on April 1.

The story of the Battle Spirits Double Drive anime begins when the protagonist, a red-haired elementary school boy named Shunta Mogami who loves the Battle Spirits game, is transported by a light from a Battle Spirits card to Spirits World, the origin of all Battle Spirits. He meets a girl named Eto, who claims to have summoned him to Spirits World in order to prevent its destruction at the hands of the revived Evil God-King, who once plotted the destruction of Spirits World before being defeated and sealed away. Together with the confident, green-deck-wielding Yoku Albatrosa, who also came from another world, Shunta sets out to find the twelve God-Kings whose power originally sealed the Evil God-King.

Ichishiki launched the manga in last year's May issue of Saikyō Jump on April 1. Shueisha will ship the compiled book volume of the manga on April 4. Aside from Battle Spirits Double Drive, Ichishiki previously worked on the Battle Spirits: Sword Eyes manga, which launched in Saikyō Jump in 2012, and ended in 2013. Shueisha published two compiled book volumes for the series.

Takano previously worked on the SD Batosupi (SD Battle Spirits) manga, which launched in Saikyō Jump in 2013. Shueisha published the manga's first compiled book volume in 2014.

The Battle Spirits anime franchise launched with the 50-episode Battle Spirits: Shōnen Toppa Bashin series on September 7, 2008. The anime adapted Bandai's original trading card game, in which cards represent dragons, demons, birds, insects, and other spirits that the players can control in battles. Bandai imported the game to America in 2009.

Battle Spirits Double Drive is the eighth anime series in the franchise. The anime aired its 43rd episode in Japan on Wednesday.
