Viz Media began streaming an English-dubbed trailer for the Sailor Moon R: The Movie (Sailor Moon R Movie: Promise of the Rose) anime film on Thursday.
Viz Media and Eleven Arts will host a premiere screening on January 13 at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles. The event will include a Q&A session with the English language staff and cast. The screening will expand to over 300 theaters in the United States beginning on January 20. Select theaters will screen the film starting January 19.
American film distribution company Eleven Arts has a list of theaters and showtimes.
The Los Angeles premiere event and the wider screening will both also screen the "Make Up! Sailor Guardians" (Make-Up! Sailor Senshi) anime short alongside the film. Viz Media and Eleven Arts will screen the film and short in both an English-dubbed version and an English-subtitled version. Those who attend the English-dubbed screenings will also see an interview and introduction by the English voice cast. Theatergoers will also get a bonus gift while supplies last.
Viz describes the film:
Long before Mamoru found his destiny with Usagi, he gave a single rose in thanks to a lonely boy who helped him recover from the crash that claimed his parents. This long-forgotten friend, Fiore, has been searching the galaxy for a flower worthy of that sweet gesture long ago. The mysterious flower he finds is beautiful, but has a dark side- it has the power to take over planets. To make matters worse, the strange plant is tied to an ominous new asteroid near Earth! Faced with an enemy blooming out of control, It's up to Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians to band together, stop the impending destruction and save Mamoru!
The film originally opened in Japan in 1993. Geneon Entertainment previously released the film on VHS and DVD between 1999-2004. The "Make Up! Sailor Guardians" anime short also premiered in 1993.
