God Wars PS4/Vita Game Delayed to Spring 2017 in Japan

Developers aim to improve battle tempo, degree of difficulty, controls, more

Kadokawa Games announced on Tuesday that it is delaying the release of its God Wars Future Past PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita game until next spring in Japan. The game was originally slated for release on February 23.

Kadokawa Games received feedback from players who tried the demo version and decided to delay the game's release to make improvements in gameplay. The developers want to improve the battle tempo, response, degree of difficulty, controls, camera system, and difficult-to-understand parts of the interface.

NIS America began streaming an English-subtitled trailer for the game on October 27:

NIS America will release the game on the PS4 and PS Vita in standard and limited editions for each console. The limited edition includes a collector's box, the game, an art book, a soundtrack, a 27" x 38" cloth poster, and a pocket mirror (3.5 inches in diameter).

NIS America plans to release the game in North America and Europe in early 2017. NIS America will release both versions digitally as well. While the current pre-orders are available only in North America, NIS America will reveal pre-order information for the European release at a later date.

NIS America describes the game:

A long time ago, there was a beautiful land made up of three nations: Fuji, Izumo, and Hyuga . This land was called Mizuho. The people of Mizuho disliked conflict, honored their ancestral spirits, and lived in harmony with nature. However, over time, they began cultivating crops, forging and using metal, fighting wars, destroying nature, and neglecting to honor their ancestral spirits.

In the meantime, various locations in Mizuho suffered from natural disasters like flooding, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. In order to stop a destructive eruption, the Queen of Mizuho, Tsukuyomi, sacrificed her beloved daughter Sakuya to the mountain, confined her other daughter Kaguya within a bamboo seal in case of future disasters, and then disappeared. 13 years later, Princess Kaguya has grown into a beautiful woman and her childhood friend, Kintaro, saves her during a riot. She rises against her "fate to be a sacrifice," and in order to follow her own path, they both escape from Fuji and journey across Mizuho to discover the truth behind Tsukuyomi's decision.

The game will have both a physical and digital release on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The physical release for both platforms will cost 7,344 yen (tax included, about US$71).

A demo of the game launched in Japan on September 5. The game's aesthetic will mix anime-inspired character designs and monster designs influenced by classical Japanese Yamato-e paintings. Yoshimi Yasuda, the former head of Tecmo and current head of Kadokawa Games, is conceiving the story, directing the game, and writing the scenario. LovePlus designer Tarō Minoboshi is designing the characters, while Sawaki Takeyasu (Devil May Cry, Steel Battalion, Ōkami, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron) is designing the monsters. Enka singer Fuyumi Sakamoto is singing the theme song "Toki o Koete."
