Square Enix began streaming the "Final Trailer (2016)" for its upcoming Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue PlayStation 4 game on Friday. Like previous trailers for the game, it features a new remixed version of Hikaru Utada's original theme song "Hikari" ("Simple and Clean" in the English version).
The EP with "Hikari (Ray Of Hope MIX)," "Simple And Clean (Ray Of Hope MIX)," "Hikari (P's CLUB MIX)," and "Simple And Clean (P's CLUB MIX)" will launch in Japan on January 11. The official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account revealed Kingdom Hearts artist Tetsuya Nomura's jacket art for the release:
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will include:
- Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance HD, an HD remaster of the 2012 Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance Nintendo 3DS game
- Kingdom Hearts X: Back Cover, a brand-new HD theater video recounting "the series' oldest short story"
- Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -a fragmentary passage-, with a brand-new short episode tied to the 2011 Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix PSP game
The game will ship on January 12 in Japan and on January 24 in North America and Europe. The collection was previously slated for a December 2016 worldwide release.
Square Enix will release another game, Kingdom Hearts HD I.5 Remix, for PlayStation 4 on March 9 in Japan, March 28 in North America, and March 31 in Europe. The release combines the Kingdom Hearts HD I.5 Remix and Kingdom Hearts HD II.5 Remix PlayStation 3 compilation games, and so will include a total of six earlier Kingdom Hearts titles.
