Pokémon Sun/Moon Games Sell 3.7 Million Copies in 1st 2 Weeks in N. America

Games sold 85% more than Pokémon X/Y in same launch period

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company revealed on Wednesday that they have sold a total of 3.7 million copies of the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Nintendo 3DS games in North America in less than two weeks. The games have sold more than 85% more than the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games, which previously held the record for the fastest-selling Nintendo game, in the same launch period.

The games are also Nintendo's biggest launch in Europe, with sales of the games in their first week in the region reaching over 1.5 million copies. The game has sold more than 1.9 million copies in Japan as of November 27.

Nintendo shipped more than 10 million copies of the game worldwide for the initial shipment. The games set a new record for most copies shipped for the Nintendo 3DS in their initial shipment. Nintendo had revealed last month that the two games are the best pre-selling games in the company's history. The games' "Special Demo Version" is also the most downloaded demo in the Nintendo 3DS eShop's history.

The games debuted in Japan and North America on November 18, followed by Europe on November 23. The three Starter Pokémon (pictured below) are: the Grass-type Rowlet (Mokuroh in Japan), the Fire-type Litten (Nyabby), and the Water-type Popplio (Ashimari).

The games' new Legendary Pokémon include Solgaleo and Lunala (pictured below):

The games are available on the Nintendo 3DS worldwide in Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Korean, and — unlike in the previous generation — Chinese (Traditional and Simplified). Players can choose their preferred language when they launch each game. The two versions are set 12 hours apart.
