The official YouTube channel of Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block began streaming a teaser trailer for the compilation films of the Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress anime on Tuesday. The video features various action scenes from the television anime.
The compilation films will have two parts. The first part will debut in theaters on December 31 and the second half will debut on January 7. Both will run for two weeks in theaters.
The "steampunk survival action" story takes place on the island country Hinomoto, where humans hide themselves in fortresses called stations against the threat of zombie-like beings with steel hearts known as "Kabane." Only armored locomotives known as "Hayajiro" go between the stations.
The original television anime premiered on April 7 and ended on July 1. The second episode was delayed due to special news coverage of the Kumamoto earthquake on April 15. The series' broadcast resumed one week later with the second episode.
The anime reunited director Tetsuro Araki and Wit Studio, the team responsible for Attack on Titan. Code Geass creator Ichirō Ōkouchi wrote the scripts. Haruhiko Mikimoto (Macross 7, Gunbuster) designed the original characters, and Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Aldnoah.Zero) composed the music.
The series streamed on Amazon Prime worldwide. Crunchyroll announced plans to release the series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in North America with an English dub, and Funimation is now handling the release as part of the two companies' partnership.
