Pokémon GO on iOS No Longer Has Full Access to Users' Google Accounts After Update
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Game developer Niantic Labs released an update for the iOS version of its Pokémon GO augmented reality smartphone game on Tuesday, and the update removes the app's ability to request permission for full access to a user's Google account. Niantic Labs assured users even before the update, the game did not retrieve anything other than each user's ID and email address.
The new update presents new dialog boxes that clarify to users what information they are granting access to the app. Previously, the game did not present dialog boxes that outlined the information the game was accessing.
The Pokémon GO app launched in select countries last week, and has since launched in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The company announced on Saturday that the app is now available in 26 additional countries, but not yet in Japan.
