posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The International Tokyo Toy Show announced on Thursday that Ichirō Mizuki will perform the opening theme song "Orb no Inori" (Orb's Prayer) for Ultraman Orb, the new Ultraman live-action television series. THE ALFEE band member Toshihiko Takamizawa composed and wrote the song.
Mizuki has performed theme songs for Kamen Rider Stronger, Kamen Rider BLACK RX, Kamen Rider X, and New Kamen Rider, as well as anime such as Mazinger Z, Combattler V, Voltes V, Voltron, Space Pirate Captain Harlock, and Great Mazinger, among many others.
Ultraman Orb will premiere on TV Tokyo channels on July 9 at 9:00 a.m.
Hideo Ishiguro (live-action Gokusen's Kengo Honjo) is playing the main character Gai Kurenai (seen below). Gai uses a round transformation item to borrow the powers of previous Ultraman characters and transform into a new form.
Kiyotaka Taguchi, who directed last year's Ultraman X series, will once again direct Ultraman Orb. The director stated that the series will have "themes of traveling the noble path and returning to one's roots, while still being a funny and interesting Ultraman series."
Amazon will stream an as-yet untitled Ultraman Orb spinoff in Japan and overseas markets (specifically in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia) in December.
The long-running Ultraman series is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Last year's Ultraman X debuted in July and ended in December, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.
