posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The official website of the live-action film adaptation of George Asakura's Oboreru Knife manga revealed the film's main cast on Monday.
Masaki Suda (live-action Setoutsumi, Princess Jellyfish) as Kōichirō "Kō" Hasegawa
Daiki Shigeoka (BAD BOYS J) as Katsutoshi Ōtomo
Mone Kamishiraishi (live-action Chihayafuru) as Kana Matsunaga
Yūki Yamato is directing the film, which will open in Japan this fall.
The manga tells the story of Natsume, a sixth-grade girl who has to move from Tokyo to a decidedly different town in the countryside. Upon meeting a boy named Kōichirō there, "something" stirs inside her. The story depicts a "teen heart on the brink of ruin," including the conflict and build-up.
Asakura started the series in Kodansha's Bessatsu Friend magazine in 2004, and ended it in 2013. Kodansha published the 17th and final volume in 2014. The manga inspired a spinoff manga Oboreru Knife: Yūgyo no Shizuku Iwa no Yume in 2012.
Asakura's Piece of Cake manga also inspired a live-action film. Del Rey published part of Asakawa's A Perfect Day for Love Letters manga series in English in 2005, and that manga inspired a live-action television adapation in 2014.
