The official website for Japan Anima(tor)'s Exhibition (Japan Animator Expo), the weekly anime shorts from Hideaki Anno's Studio Khara and the media company Dwango, announced on Monday that the 35th short will be Hiroyasu Kobayashi's "Cassette Girl." The short will debut on Friday.
Kobayashi (Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone CGI director) is directing the short based on his own original story. Shigeto Koyama (Big Hero 6, Gundam: Reconguista in G) is handling art direction and character design, while Takeshi Takakura (Macross Frontier, Aquarion Evol) is handling mechanical design. Yoji Enokido (Ouran High School Host Club, Star Driver) is writing the screenplay and Masayuki (Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance) is drawing the storyboard. Studio Khara's Digital Department is providing 3D animation for the short.
Animator Expo describes the story:
20XX year, the world was wrapped in deep snow.
In the world,The people of dim cold winter had been managing all [THE MEDIA].
"Cassette Girl" is the final short from the third season lineup:
The titles above were listed in phonetic Japanese order, and are not necessarily in the order of their scheduled release. For the third season, Japan Animator Expo is once again releasing a new episode every Friday.
Hideaki Anno himself is serving as executive producer of the entire project initiative with Dwango President Nobuo Kawakami, and he also designed the image character mascot "(Tor)-kun." Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki created the title logo, and fellow Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki colored it. The shorts mostly feature the voice talent of Ranma ½ and Cowboy Bebop co-stars Kouichi Yamadera and Megumi Hayashibara.
