Square Enix Reveals Final Fantasy Type-0 Online Game for Mobile/PC (Updated)

New Game! launching in spring 2016 is being considered for N. America, Europe

Final Fantasy XV/Final Fantasy Type-0 director Hajime Tabata announced during a stage event at Tokyo Game Show on Saturday that Square Enix is developing the Final Fantasy Type-0 Online mobile and PC game. Tabata noted that this is the "rebirth" of Final Fantasy Agito that Square Enix said it would announce when it announced that the Final Fantasy Agito mobile game would end service in November.

Final Fantasy Type-0 Online will begin service in spring 2016. The game is being considered for a release in North America and Europe.

Square Enix NA is currently streaming the game's announcement trailer.

In the free-to-play Final Fantasy Agito mobile game, players are elite Akademia cadets aiming to become an Agito by completing combat missions and deepening their friendships by interacting with NPCs. On weekdays, players enjoy a normal school life with their classmates, and on weekends players work together to battle enemy bosses. The fate of the world is reliant on the game's "decision" system where votes of players affect the world's history. The game has more than 1 million downloads.

The game launched in Japan in May 2014 and had been slated for release in North America before the announcement last month that the game would end service.

Square Enix had also announced earlier this week that it has halted development on the PlayStation Vita game Final Fantasy Agito+. Square Enix announced the game in September 2014, but delayed the game indefinitely last October.

Square Enix released Final Fantasy Type-0 for the PlayStation Portable in Japan in October 2011, and then released Final Fantasy Type-0 HD for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in North America on March 17, in Japan on March 19, and in Europe on March 20. The company then released the game for PC in August.

Update: Added announcement trailer.
