North American video game and anime distributor NIS America began streaming an English gameplay video for its upcoming Rodea the Sky Soldier Wii U and Nintendo 3DS game. The video previews the game's flight controls and multiplayer.
NIS America describes the story:
1,000 years ago, Emperor Geardo of the Naga Empire sent an army of machine soldiers to invade the sky kingdom of Garuda. Thanks to the efforts of Princess Cecilia and Rodea, a machine soldier who promised to protect Garuda, Emperor Geardo's assault was thwarted. In present day, a spirited inventor named Ion discovers an abandoned robot that has fallen into disrepair in the heart of a scorching desert. Upon completing her repairs, the robot stirs to life and reveals itself to be none other than Rodea. Stunned to find himself in the future, Rodea learns that the Naga Empire is no more and that Garuda has known peace for 1,000 years.
But this peace was not meant to last, for the forces of Naga have returned to wage war against Garuda. Remembering the promise he made 1,000 years ago, Rodea takes to the skies to defend Garuda from the Naga Empire once again.
Kadokawa's Zin Hasegawa is directing the game and Sonic franchise co-creator Yuji Naka is the original creator.
NIS America delayed the game's release a second time to November 10 in North America and November 13 in Europe, citing "ongoing technical difficulties" as the reason. The game was originally scheduled to release in September before being delayed to October in June.
The game will be available in a US$54.99 Limited Edition for the 3DS verison, and a US$74.99 Limited Edition for the Wii U version including the Rodea the Sky Soldier game, a hardcover art book, a soundtrack disc, and a pendant. The Wii U Limited Edition will also include the original Wii version of the game. The 3DS version will also be available as a Launch Day Edition for US$39.99, the same price as the Standard 3DS Edition. The Launch Day Edition will include the Rodea the Sky Soldier game and a soundtrack disc.
The game was initially announced in 2011 for the Wii and Nintendo 3DS consoles. However, no further details were announced until last November, when it was revealed that the game would be released for the Wii U instead of the Wii. A limited edition package of the Wii U version bundled the Wii game Tenkū no Kishi Rodea (Sky Soldier Rodea) when it shipped in Japan on April 2.
