17-year-old Shun Nishime Stars in Kamen Rider Ghost TV Series

New series in live-action special-effects franchise premieres on October 4

Toei announced on Monday that 17-year-old actor Shun Nishime will play the protagonist Takeru Tenkūji in Kamen Rider Ghost, the next installment in Toei's Kamen Rider live-action special-effects franchise. The role will be Nishime's first starring role in a serialized TV series. Nishime, who is from Okinawa, had won the grand prix prize at the 27th JUNON Super Boy Contest last year.

In the story, Takeru momentarily loses his life at the hands of a Ganma, who are mysterious beings from another world. However, thanks to the strange power of a hermit (played by Naoto Takenaka), Takeru is brought back to life and given the power of a Kamen Rider and becomes Kamen Rider Ghost. In order to completely come back to life, Takeru must seek out the "Eyecons" of the "15 Great Men."

The series will also star Hikaru Ōsawa as the heroine Akari Tsukimura; Ryōsuke Yamamoto as Makoto Fukami/Kamen Rider Specter; Takayuki Yanagi as Onari, the acting chief priest of the Ōtenkūji temple; Yoshiyuki Morishita as a mysterious man who knows the secret of the Eycons; and Hayato Isomura as Alan, a young man working with the mysterious man.

Satoshi Morota (Kamen Rider Wizard, Kamen Raider Gaim, Kamen Rider Fourze) will direct the series off of Takurō Fukuda's (Ultraseven X) scripts. Kazuhiro Takahashi will co-produce the series with Motoi Sasaki, Kenta Ando, and Shiori Odaka. Kishidan will perform the theme song.

The new series will feature eyes as the transformation key item, called "Eyecons." Takeru will use the Eyecons to borrow powers from great heroes of the past, such as Miyamoto Musashi, Isaac Newton, and Thomas Edison. For example, in his "Newton Soul" form, Kamen Rider Ghost can manipulate gravity. When Takeru uses these powers, his form changes.

The series will premiere on TV Asahi on October 4.

Kamen Rider Ghost made his first appearance in the Gekijōban Kamen Rider Drive: Surprise Future film in his "Newton Soul" form. The film opened in Japan on August 8.

Kamen Rider Drive premiered last October.
