The combined 37th and 38th issue of Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine will publish the final chapter of Norifusa Mita's Suna no Eikan (Laurels of Sand) on Monday. The conclusion will feature a center color page.
The original manga centers around Hiroyuki Nanashima, whose high school baseball team was one game away from debuting in Kōshien in his second year. The team would have entered the national tournament during the school's centennial anniversary.
In his third year, the good players had graduated, and Nanashima is left as team captain. The team is in no shape to aim for anything high. But an old man gives Nanashima one million yen, trusting that he will use the money to send the team to Kōshien no matter what. Nanashima is caught between his commitment to the team and the temptation of the money.
Mita (Dragon Zakura, Investor Z) launched the manga in Weekly Young Magazine in 2010. Kodansha published the manga's 24th compiled book volume on Thursday, and will publish the 25th volume on September 4. Mita's Dragon Zakura manga was adapted into a Korean live-action television series in 2010, while his Angel Bank: Dragon Zakura Gaiden manga was adapted into a Japanese drama the same year. Crunchyroll is digitally publishing Mita's Investor Z manga, which is currently running in Kodansha's Morning magazine.
