Sony revealed the details of the previously announced Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward special edition PlayStation 4 consoles, as well as revealing additional PS Vita and PlayStation TV variants on Wednesday. All the variants will be released alongside the Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward expansion pack on June 23.
The PlayStation 4 system comes in both jet black and glacier white colors, and will cost 44,980 yen (around US$362). Both have a Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward-themed design laser-etched on the hard drive bay cover. Apart from the system itself, the bundle will include a Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward theme for the PlayStation 4 Dynamic Menu. In addition, purchasers have the choice to bundle the system with one of three versions of the Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward game: Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward normal edition, Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward collector's edition, or Final Fantasy XIV Online.
The normal edition will contain the game itself, the "Baron Circlet," "Baron Earring," and "Minion: Choco Chocobo Flyer" in-game items, and will also give the purchaser early access to the expansion pack a few days before its release date. The collector's edition contains everything in the normal edition, and adds special box art, a reversible jacket cover, a high-quality dragon mount figure, a visual art book titled "The Art of Eorzea -HEAVENSWARD-," a Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn trailer collection Blu-ray titled "Eorzea in Motion - A Realm Revisited," and additional in-game items, which include a "Griffin" flying mount, a "Baron Helm (Dark Knight Cecil version)," a "Wind-up Kain" minion, and a "Fantasia" potion. The online edition contains the digital download version of the game, with the same pre-order bonuses as the normal edition.
The PS Vita bundle contains a PS Vita White model with a special Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward-themed sleeve, and will cost 20,980 yen (around US$168). It also comes with a download code for the Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward special menu theme.
The PlayStation TV bundle contains a PlayStation TV White model with a Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward-themed sleeve. It also comes with a download code for the Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward special menu theme. Purchasers have the choice of whether to purchase the Value Pack version, which contains a DualShock 3 White controller and will cost 16,280 yen (around US$131), or the normal version, which will cost 11,480 yen (around US$92).
Heavensward will move into the Ishgard area and the country's Dragonsong War with Dravania will be a key plot point. The Wyrmking's fight against Thordan and his Knights Twelve will also be a major focus in the expansion. Square Enix will add The Holy See of Ishgard and multiple "new areas," new "challenging" dungeons, new "high-end" raids, new gear, recipes, airships, primals jobs, and a new race.
Specific new additions include the Dark Knight job class and flying mounts such as black Chocobos. Six flying mount varieties are in the works with a seventh planned depending on fan feedback. Airships are also planned with single-rider versions and multi-rider versions.
The new beast tribes are called the "Vanu Vanu" and "Gnath." The Vanu Vanu's primal is the "Bismarck" and the Gnath's is a laser sword wielding bug called "Ravana."
Inaccessible areas like Dravania will be opened and the player's level cap will be increased to 60.
The expansion will be available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC on June 23, and the collector's edition will include various extras such as a "Dragonsong War" box, a dragon mount figure, an art book, a Blu-ray Disc with compilations of all the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn trailers, and five in-game items.
