The author's comments in the 20th volume of Hiroyuki Yoshino and Kenetsu Satou's Seikon no Qwaser (Qwaser of Stigmata) manga lists that author Yoshino "believes that the final battle is beginning in the next volume." He also commented that he never thought the manga would continue this long.
Tokyopop describes the story:
In the near future, a dark war is being waged between Qwasers, supernatural 'humans' made by the Church to control the elements, and [Mafuyu] Oribe, a bullied school girl, is about to become the conflict's center! Attacked by a Qwaser seeking a closely guarded Romanov family artifact that holds the power to grant wishes, Oribe pairs up with a mysterious silver-haired boy, another Qwaser, for the battle of their lives as they withstand the attacks of some very powerful - and curvaceous - super humans!
The creative team behind Seikon no Qwaser manga began the series in 2006 in Akita Shoten's Champion RED magazine. Tokyopop released part of the manga in North America before it closed its doors in 2011, and Sentai Filmworks licensed both seasons of the anime adaptation.
