Manga about school calligraphy club began in 2007
The 13th compiled volume of Katsutoshi Kawai's Tomehane! Suzuri Kōkō Shodōbu manga will announce on Friday that the 14th volume, which ships next spring, will be the last.
The manga centers around Yukari Ōe, a girl who returns to Japan from Canada and finds herself joining her new high school's calligraphy club; without enough students, the tiny club is in danger of being abolished.
The manga began in Shogakukan's Weekly Young Sunday magazine in 2007, although it migrated to Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine last September after Young Sunday ended publication in July. The manga has been nominated for both the 1st and 2nd Manga Taisho prizes, and a live-action drama adaptation aired in 2010.
