posted on by Jennifer Sherman
This year's 52nd issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is announcing on Wednesday that KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple creator Shun Matsuena will launch the Tokiwa Kitareri!! manga series in the next issue. The first chapter will have color front cover and opening pages in the magazine's first 2015 issue when it goes on sale in Japan on December 3.
The 52nd issue will also publish the 46-page manga "DEM III," the third of Matsuena's three one-shots appearing in the magazine. The one-shots include color pages, and the first 44-page manga, "Kanata," debuted in the 50th issue on November 12. The magazine released the second one-shot, "Haruka," in the 51st issue on November 19. The one-shots and the new series are all described as school stories.
Matsuena's Shijō Saikyō no Deshi Kenichi (KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple) manga ended in the magazine in September. He launched the series in 2002, and Shogakukan published the manga's 60th volume on Tuesday. (It was the fourth of four volumes published in four months: volume 57 on August 18, 58 on September 18, 59 on October 17, and 60 on November 18.)
The manga inspired a television anime series that Funimation released in North America. It also inspired a series of original video anime episodes that eventually ran on Japanese television.
