Sentai Filmworks Licenses Brynhildr in the Darkness Anime

posted on by Karen Ressler
Sci-fi fantasy series streamed on Crunchyroll

Sentai Filmworks announced on Friday that it has licensed the anime adaptation of Lynn Okamoto's Byrnhildr in the Darkness (Gokukoku no Brynhildr) manga. The company plans to release the series digitally and on home video.

The 13-episode series aired this past spring and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.

Sentai Filmworks describes the series:

A high school senior Murakami Ryota had a childhood friend called Kuroneko who died in an accident. Ryota had made a promise with Kuroneko that he will prove there are aliens in the universe. In order to fulfill his promise, he joined the astronomy club at the school as its only member and kept observing the stars almost every night. One day, a girl who looks like Kuroneko transferred into his class. To his surprise, the girl's name is Kuroha Neko which is really similar to his childhood friend's name. However it seems that there is something unusual about her. It turns out that she is a witch who actually escaped from a research laboratory.

Studio ARMS (MAOYU, Queen's Blade) is animated this story by the creator of Elfen Lied and Nononono. Kenichi Imaizumi (Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Student Council's Discretion Level 2) directed the anime off scripts by Yukinori Kitajima (428 ~Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de~, Senran Kagura, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Hamatora). Hiroaki Karasu (episode animation director on Gatchaman Crowds, Kimikiss pure rouge) served as character designer and chief animation director. Nao Tokisawa scored the soundtrack.
