Black Jack TV Reaches Crowdfunding Goal for Anime Sols DVD
posted on by Egan Loo
Anime Sols reached its crowdfunding goal of US$22,000 for the North American DVD release of the Black Jack medical television anime on Wednesday. The fundraiser reached its goal within three hours of the deadline, and the site promised that if the goal was met, it would launch a new campaign for the 12 Black Jack original video anime episodes also.
The anime adapted the original classic story by manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka, and it ran for 61 episodes in 2004-2006. The story follows a black-market doctor and his assistant Pinoko as they perform dangerous operations around the world. The original manga also spawned another television anime series, several movies, and specials.
Crunchyroll and Viki have streamed the Black Jack television anime in North America and the United Kingdom.
Japan's Yomiuri Group announced Anime Sols as a crowdsourcing venture with anime studios Pierrot, Tezuka Productions, and Tatsunoko Productions in November. Creamy Mami is another title that met its crowdfunding goal on Anime Sols last week. The other titles that did not meet their goals will continue to be streamed until Anime Sols launches new titles in a few weeks.
