Square Enix: Final Fantasy XIV to Be Released for PS3 Before PS4
posted on by Joanne Mertz
Square Enix president Yoichi Wada and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn director and producer Naoki Yoshida revealed on Friday that the company will release the game for PlayStation 3 before other video game consoles. During the fifth installment of the "FFXIV Producers Letter Live" program, the company representatives responded to a question about whether the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn role-playing game will be available for the PlayStation 4 console.
Wada said that the production team wants the game to be available for whatever platform players want, "but first we will complete the PS3 version we promised everyone."
"First of all, we are optimizing the PS3 version," Yoshida added. "After we launch [that version] on schedule, there might be an opportunity to discuss it."
Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV Online for personal computers in September 2010. After criticism from fans, the company revealed an updated version of the game titled Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn that adds a new world and story. The first phase of the new game's beta test will open on Monday. PlayStation 3 players will be able to test the console version after the third phase of the beta test launches.
