NTT Solmare's ComicFriends Online Manga Service Shuts Down
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
NTT Solmare's ComicFriends social manga reading service has announced that the service will close on December 20.
The English manga on the Facebook-based service will no longer be available for access after December 20, and those who still have "ComicCoin," the currency used within the service to purchase manga, will not be able to use it after that date.
The Osaka-based company NTT Solmare launched the service in February. ComicFriends encourages readers to connect with each other while enjoying a selection of manga. ComicFriends allows readers to write comments on the manga's pages and share them with friends.
The service launched with a catalog of more than 60 titles in English, including Hiroshi Motomiya's Salaryman Kintaro and the debut of Izumi Matsumoto's Kimagure Orange Road manga in English.
Thanks to Daniel Zelter for the news tip.
Update: Although the service announced Kimagure Orange Road, it did not release the manga before its closure. Thanks, Daniel Zelter.
