posted on by Egan Loo
North American video distributor Media Blasters announced on Wednesday that it licensed Kisei Jūi Suzune Genesis, a live-action film based on Haruki's mobile phone manga Kisei Jūi Suzune (Parasite Doctor Suzune). The film opened in Japan last year along with a companion film, Kisei Jūi Suzune Evolution.
The story of Kisei Jūi Suzune revolves around a female doctor who fights to destroy parasites that increase its host's power and sexual desire. Suzune's father, a genius parasite scholar, disappeared when Suzune was a child. The manga, distributed by Takeshobo, has been downloaded about 15 million times. Takeshobo's Bamboo Comics label also released the manga in book form.
Actress Rei Yoshii (Bleach Rock Musical's Inoue Orihime) starred in the titular role, and Ryū Kaneda (Video Girl Ai, Negima! Magister Negi Magi) directed the film with his Garo CG team. Actress Megumi Kagurazaka (Guilty of Romance, Cold Fish) played the villain, a teacher named Naomi.
Media Blasters will release the film under its live-action label Tokyo Shock. The Japanese website Movie Collection is streaming a trailer (NSFW).
