Shigeru Mizuki's Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths won the Eisner Award in the Best U.S. Edition of International Material - Asia category at Comic-Con International on Friday. This is the first Eisner win for Mizuki. The manga was competing against Kaoru Mori's A Bride's Story, Tadashi Agi and Shū Okimoto's The Drops of God, Hisae Iwaoka's Saturn Apartments, Takashi Murakami's Stargazing Dog, and Takako Shimura's Wandering Son (volume 1).
Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths was also nominated in the Best Reality-Based Work category, but Jeff Jensen and Jonathan Case's Green River Killer: A True Detective Story won that award. Similary, Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys was nominated for Best Continuing Series, but the winner was Daredevil by Mark Waid, Marcos Martin, Paolo Rivera, and Joe Rivera.
