posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The official website for the Code:Breaker "dark hero" television anime began streaming the series' first teaser video on Wednesday. The anime adaptation of the Code:Breaker manga by Akimine Kamijyō (Samurai Deeper Kyo) is slated to premiere in Japan in October.
Yasuhiro Irie (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Kurau: Phantom Memory) is directing the series at the studio Kinema Citrus. Yukie Akiya will be the character designer and chief animation director, and Masayuki Sakoi will be the assistant director.
The main cast includes Nobuhiko Okamoto (Blue Exorcist's Rin) as Rei Ōgami, Yōko Hikasa (K-ON's Mio) as Sakura Sakurakōji, and Kenichi Suzumura (Gintama's Okita) as Toki. Subaru Kimura will play Masaomi Heike (Mawaru Penguindrum's Kanba), Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Durarara!!'s Mikado) will play Yūki Tenbōin, and Mitsuki Saiga (.hack's Tsukasa) will play Rui Hachiōji.
Kamijyō's manga debuted in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2008. The 19th compiled volume will ship in Japan on July 17.
Del Rey Manga published two volumes of the manga in North America in 2010 (before Kodansha USA took over Del Rey's manga titles) and described the plot as follows:
Rei seems like an affable transfer student to everyone around him, but quirky high school beauty Sakura sees his true face as a terrifying vigilante - a "nonexistent" Code:Breaker who cannot be touched by the law. And since Sakura has just witnessed the effects of his deadly blue flame, she's slated to be the next to burn!
Update: The video is labeled as a "teaser."
