posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Kodansha Manga Award winner Risa Itou launched her new series Namakemono Diet ("Slacker's Diet") on Bungeishunju's website "Comic Essay Room" on May 31. The monthly manga follows author Itou and her dieting, even though she hates exercise and loves to eat. Itou's husband and fellow manga creator Sensha Yoshida (Utsurun Desu.) appears in the first chapter, and Itou speaks candidly about her weight changes over the past two decades as she fluctuated between 47 to 63 kilograms (about 104 to 139 pounds).
Itou previously won the Kodansha Manga Award in the shōjo manga category in 2005 for her series Hey Pitan! She won the 2006 Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Short Story Award for One Woman, Two Cats, Hey Pitan! and Onna no Mado. Her comedy series Oruchuban Ebichu and Higepiyo were both adapted into anime series.
