Ring Horror Films' Sadako Teaches Manners as an Anime Cat
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Actress Miki Nakatani (Ringu, Kuruneko, Densha Otoko) is voicing the title crossover ghost cat character in the "Sadaneko" theater manners short. Nakatani's animated character is a combination of a Kuruneko television anime series cat and The Ring horror films' iconic ghost Sadako.
In the short's story, the five Kuruneko cats violate theater etiquette rules and Sadaneko emerges from the screen to bind the cats with her hair and scold them. The anime short will air before screenings of the live-action Sadako 3D film, which will open in Japan on May 12. Japanese theaters show manner movies ― similar to the reminder videos in other countries ― before the main feature begins to remind people to turn off mobile phones, avoid talking, and maintain a pleasant viewing experience for others in theater.
Nakatani voiced all five cats and their owner in the second season of the Kuruneko anime series. She also played Mai Takano in the 1998 live-action horror film Ringu and its 1999 sequel Ringu 2.
Sadako appeared as "Sadako Keroro" this month in a Sadako 3D and Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunsō) crossover promotion. "Sadako 3D x Hello Kitty" products will also be sold when the film opens.
