The United Kingdom-based distributor Soda Pictures is streaming an English-subtitled trailer for Eric Khoo's animated adaptation of Yoshihiro Tatsumi's A Drifting Life autobiographical manga.
The film screened at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival in May, and Singapore submitted the film for Oscar consideration last year, but the film did not make the short list.
The manga is based on a semi-autobiographical account of Tatsumi's struggle to make a living after World War II. A Drifting Life originally shipped in Japan in November of 2008 as a two-volume series. The manga since won two Eisner awards in 2010. Tatsumi was also nominated to enter the Eisner Hall of Fame that year, but was not selected.
The film won the best film award at last year's Dubai International Film Festival. Additionally, the film took the best composer prize in Dubai, and won best film in the Muhr AsiaAfrica competition. The film also won the best animated film award at Spain's Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in October.
Tatsumi opened in theaters in the United Kingdom on Friday, January 13.
