The official website for the Bodacious Space Pirates (Mōretsu Pirates) television anime series is currently streaming a 91-second promotional video. The video features the opening theme song "Mōretsu Uchū Kōkyōkyoku - Dai-Shichi Gakushō 'Mugen no Ai'" (Extreme Space Symphony's Movement VII "Infinite Love") by the five-member female idol group Momoiro Clover Z. The anime will premiere on January 7 in Japan.
The website is also streaming a video featuring the image song "Black Holy" by the lead character Marika Katō (as voiced by Mikako Komatsu).
An anime adaptation of Yuichi Sasamoto's Mini-Skirt Uchū Kaizoku (Mini-Skirt [Space] Pirates) space-opera novels was first revealed in 2009 for release this year. The television series was relaunched under the new Mōretsu Pirates title at Tokyo Anime Fair last year. Tetsuo Sato (Nadesico, Stellvia) is directing the project and overseeing the scripts.
The story centers around a spirited high school girl named Marika. She keeps herself busy with the space yacht club and her part-time job at a high-class retro café. One day, two people suddenly appear and claim to be subordinates of her dead father. They demand that she assume command of the space pirate ship Benten Maru. A privateer ship's compact was made during a war of independence a century ago, and according to that compact, the ship must be inherited by the captain's next direct descendant. Marika finds herself embarking on a new life as a space pirate.
