The August 24 Blu-ray Disc and DVD release for Mardock Scramble: The First Compression in Japan will include English subtitles, according to the film's website.
The Limited Edition Blu-Ray release will sell for 8,925 yen (about $114) and includes the complete and theatrical editions of the film, a 60-page booklet, a 50-page pamphlet, and a figure/USB drive. A total of 41 minutes of video extras include a making-of feature, an interview with creator Tow Ubukata, promotional videos, and every television commercial. (The complete edition of the film will have four more minutes of footage compared to the 65-minute theatrical version.)
Mardock Scramble: The First Compression is the first part in a film trilogy based on novels by Ubukata. Sentai Filmworks licensed the trilogy for North American release with English dubbing and subtitles. Viz Media publishes the novel series in one volume in North America.
In the story, a teenage prostitute named Rune Balot is murdered in an explosion. However, Dr. Easter saves her, and Balot is resurrected as an advanced cyborg. Balot takes on the worst of Mardock City's criminals as she looks for vengeance.
