posted on by Andrew Osmond
Evangelion 2.22, released in cinemas as Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance, makes its debut on Monday on DVD and Blu-Ray from Manga Entertainment. There are three editions: a DVD (RRP £17.99), a Blu-Ray (RRP £22.99) and a DVD/BR Combo Pack (£24.99). The film is rated 15.
Evangelion 2.0 is the second in a planned quartet of films remaking the 1995 TV series Neon Genesis Evangelion. In the story, teenagers pilot giants called Evas against monsters. The first film in the new quartet was Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, which was released in Japan in 2007.
The second film diverges much more from the TV storyline. It also introduces a brand-new Eva pilot, Mari Makinami Illustrious, voiced by singer/actress Maaya Sakamoto. (Sakamoto's other roles include the heroine Hitomi in Vision of Escaflowne, Ciel in Black Butler and dubbing Billie Piper as Rose in Japanese broadcasts of Doctor Who).
The UK release includes a commentary by the US dub cast, and deleted and alternate scenes. The DVD/BR Combo pack includes a 20-page booket.
Another DVD release on Monday is the first volume of Nabari no Ou, in which shinobi fight in modern-day Japan over one indifferent boy, Miharu, who carries a powerful martial art. The two-disc set contains the first 13 episodes (of 26) and has an RRP of £24.99. It is also released by Manga Entertainment.
