Moomin Song Composer Seiichirō Uno Passes Away

Composer Seiichirō Uno passed away due to heart failure in a Tokyo hospital on April 26. He was 84. He is survived by his wife, actress Kyōko Satomi (Mitsuyo Uno).
Uno was born in Hyōgo Prefecture, and he graduated from Waseda University. While he was still in college, he began composing music for stage plays. He then moved into television and composed theme songs for Moomin, Andersen Stories, Ikkyū-san, Marvelous Melmo, Sarutobi Ecchan, Fables of the Green Forest (Yama Nezumi Rocky Chuck), Vicky the Viking (Chiisana Viking Vicke), Chibikko Kaiju Yadamon, and several other anime series.
Uno also composed music for the anime films Puss 'n Boots (Nagagutsu wo Haita Neko), Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves (Alibaba to Yonjubiki no Tozuku), Shōnen Jack to Mahōtsukai, and Manga Kodomo Bunko. He worked on the puppet series Hyokkori Hyōtan-jima and its cel-animated film remakes, as well as Kamiya-chō Sakuran Hotel and other stage productions by the late playwright Hisashi Inoue.
