posted on by Egan Loo
The Wrap website reports and Universal Pictures' official Twitter account confirms that Harald Zwart, the Norwegian director of this year's remake of The Karate Kid, has been attached to direct Universal Pictures' proposed film version of the Bakugan Battle Brawlers game and anime franchise. The franchise features a combination of metal cards and marble-like magnetic toys that automatically transform into figures during gameplay. The Cartoon Network began running the various Bakugan anime series in the United States since 2008, after Japan and Canada had already debuted the anime in 2007.
Zwart's previous directorial credits include The Pink Panther 2, Agent Cody Banks, and One Night at McCool's.
The producers for Universal's proposed film project include Ronnen Harary (Spin Master), Scott Stuber (Stuber Productions), Jeff Kirschenbaum and Anikah McLaren (Universal). Jon Mone will be the executive producer after having pitched the project at Stuber Productions with Mike Drake.
