posted on by Egan Loo
The Japanese electricity company Kyushu Electric Power (Kyuden) unveiled five new Galaxy Express 999 anime shorts on its homepage between the end of July and September 24. (In the linked page, select the "これまでの旅" option in the top menu.) In these four-minute Ginga Tetsudo 999: Jikū o Koeta Energy no Tabi shorts, the original Galaxy Express 999 characters Tetsurō and Maetel visit five interplanetary stops (including Earth) and see how each locale dealt with energy.
The project's budget was in the tens of millions of yen (about several hundred thousand U.S. dollars). Galaxy Express creator Leiji Matsumoto himself participated in the planning of the project, and Toei Animation assembled most of the original voice cast for the soundtrack.
