posted on by Egan Loo
Japan's Association of Media in Digital (AMD) has announced that Mamoru Hosoda's Summer Wars film and the Crunchyroll video-streaming website are among the 10 winners of this year's Awards of Excellence in the 15th Annual AMD Awards on Monday. The awards honor digital media content and services that best use the latest technology in Japan in 2009. The winners will next compete for the Digital Contents of the Year grand prize and AMD Chairman's Award, which will be presented in a ceremony in Tokyo on March 17.
In addition to the Awards of Excellence, Celsys founder Yōsuke Kawakami earned The Life Achievement Award for his work on such tools as Retas! Pro, the software used by Sunrise and many of the anime studios. Relative newcomer Masashi Kawamura earned the Naomi Enami Award for his direction of Sour's "Hibi no Neiro" music video. Hakodate Kaimetsu! Tower Robo vs. Ikaaru Seijin, the promotional campaign that Hakodate City created in the vein of classic live-action special-effects series, won the Regional Award.
