No Plan for FFXIII Blu-ray Disc Demo Except in Japan

Yoshinori Kitase, producer of Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII (FFXIII) role-playing game, confirmed with the Videogamer.com website that his company has "no plan" to release a Blu-ray Disc (BD) demo of the game outside of Japan. The BD demo was bundled with some Japanese versions of the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete anime feature last month. As a result, over 100,000 Blu-ray Discs of Advent Children Complete were sold on the anime's first day of release in Japan — making it the top-selling Japanese anime Blu-ray Disc release in the format's short history.
Kitase said that the lack of overseas FFXIII Blu-ray demo plans was partly due to Square Enix's dual-console release strategy outside Japan. The company will ship the game overseas for both the BD-compatible Sony PlayStation 3 game console and the Microsoft Xbox 360 console, which has no BD support. However, Kitase added, "We hear that the demo version normally means something that you can download in the West, so that is a possibility we would like to check.”
The Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete anime is scheduled to ship on Blu-ray Disc in North America on June 2. The Final Fantasy XIII game has no official release date, but Square Enix indicated last year that it will release the game in Japan in 2009.
