Dentsu Plans Animated TV Series for Chub City Toys
posted on by Egan Loo
The Japanese media and advertising company Dentsu has acquired the rights to the Chub City brand from Jada Toys and plans to adapt the toy line into an animated television series. Bakugan Battle Brawlers producer Mitsuharu Inoue will serve as creative director for the project at DCI-LA, the Los Angeles office that Dentsu established last year for international animation partnerships. As the new owner of the brand, Dentsu plans an extensive new licensing program. Yoshio Takada, director of Dentsu's media services/TV division, said that its strategy "is to create animation for a global market by working with intellectual properties and development partners in North America while designing characters and animating through studios in Japan."
Detsu co-produces or co-owns dozens of anime properties, including Gintama, Soul Eater, Nodame Cantabile, Bleach, and Spirited Away. It was also the owner of Geneon Entertainment from 2003 until this year, when it transfered its majority ownership to Universal Pictures International Entertainment. Jada Toys has been selling die-cast toys from Initial D, Speed Racer, and other franchises.
