Funimation Gets Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple Anime

Funimation has announced that it has acquired the first 26 episodes of KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple, the martial-arts comedy television anime series. Kenichi is an ordinary student who has been bullied all through high school — until a girl convinces him to join her dojo and become a disciple of many martial arts styles. Director Hajime Kamegaki (Naruto Shippūden, Fushigi Yuugi) and the animators of TMS Entertainment adapted Shun Matsuena's manga of the same name, and the anime ran from October of 2006 to September of 2007.

Funimation will release the anime in two volumes starting in January of 2009. The original manga began in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 2002, and the 29th compiled volume is shipping this month in Japan.
