June's Licensing Int'l Expo to Feature Anime Franchises
posted on by Egan Loo
This year's Licensing International Expo will take place in New York from June 10 to to June 12, and as the world's largest licensing trade show, it will feature many anime and anime-related franchises. Viz Media has had a significant presence at the event every year, but Toei Animation and Sario have also been veteran exhibitors for several years running.
Even though many Japanese properties have tie-in anime, any licensing agreement that is hammered out at the show (or after the show) may not necessarily include the anime. Warner Bros. Consumer Products announced Mattel as its toy licensee on the live-action Speed Racer adaptation at last year's show, and Viz Media did the same for Bandai America on Blue Dragon. Three of Viz Media's properties at Licensing International Expo — Blue Dragon, Bleach, and Kilari — were also presented at last month's MIPTV content trade show for international television distribution. In fact, at least five of the properties that Viz Media will be showcasing this year were also showcased last year.
